Although not always the reason, dogs urinating on lawns may cause scorched areas to appear and can be caused by both bitches and males. The urine contains urea, which has a high nitrogen content, which up to a point is a good fertiliser. However, in the concentrations present in dog urine it can kill the grass. There are products on the market which all claim to prevent lawn damage, however in the opinion of lawn partners there is no single product which can boast a 100% success rate. The only surefire method is to keep dogs off the lawn or to flush the affected areas with water straight away.
